The claim-to-fame of this pulse induction detector is its ability to ignore minerals in the environment while maintaining high sensitivity to all metal targets. It is not affected by highly mineralized saltwater, coral, rocks with high iron content, or magnetic (black) sand, which drives conventional metal detectors crazy. The Pulse 8X detects all metals from coins and jewelry to anchors and cannons and does it on land or in fresh or salt water. The diver is alerted to the presence of a metal target by both a visual readout (shown on the meter) and an audio output (heard in the underwater earphone). The detection range for a target is unaffected by the medium between the detector's coil and the metal object. Performance does not vary, whether detected through air, water, silt, sand, or solid coral.

The Pulse 8X has all the accessories needed to use the detector on land or dive to depths of over 200 feet. The standard package includes a corrosion-proof PVC handle for underwater use, an anodized aluminum handle for land use, and underwater and land headphones. The package also includes AC and DC battery chargers, a hip-mount kit for the electronics housing, a rugged Cordura carry bag, a spare parts kit, and a JW Fishers Search Team hat.

Powered by an internal 9-volt rechargeable battery pack, the detector will run all day on a full charge. Recharge the battery overnight, and be ready for another full day of hunting.

The P8X package also includes a carry bag and land headphones. The P8X has both visual and audio target indicators. When a metal object is detected the audio alarm sounds and a meter shows the strength of the signal. The meter is beneficial in determining the size and burial depth of the target, information not easily conveyed by the blinking LED indicators or the audio-only readout of other detectors. The audio alarm is loud enough for a diver to easily hear without having the earphone directly over the ear.

Rechargeable batteries power the detectors for 12 hours before requiring an overnight recharge. Batteries can be easily field replaced to allow around the clock operation. Unlike competing detectors, the electronics compartment can be opened for inspection or battery replacement without voiding the warranty.

The detector’s buoyancy is slightly negative in the water. This allows the diver to sit the detector on the bottom to dig a target without having it float away, which is a problem with “positive buoyancy” detectors. The underwater housing is a single solid casting with ¼” wall thickness and molded-in brass inserts. A ½ inch thick acrylic faceplate is fastened down with six stainless steel screws giving a maximum depth rating in excess of 200 feet.
